  • //Is It Intelligence?

I ran into the administrative assistant in the elevator on my way to the office today. Nice girl. She seemed a little bummed... Oh, how do I know? Ask my female friends how well I read them... And since I am not one to hold words back much, I asked her about it:

    Me: "Something troubling you?"
Her: "Hmm... yeah, boss told me to just drop the mail by the door next time when she's not in."
    Me: "What's wrong with that?"
Her: "It's like she doesn't trust me to go into her office."
    Me: "Oh..."
    Her: "Yeah..."
Me: "We went through this a few months ago, didn't we?"
    Her: "Yeah, I think so."
Me: "Did it not make sense?"
Her: "I think it did. But I think I forgot."
Me: "Okay, let's try this again: So when the boss is in her office, do you knock before you walk in?"
    Her: "Duh! It's common courtesy."
Me: "Right. You would ask for permission before going in, right?"
    Her: "Uh huh."
Me: "Right. So if you ask for permission to go into the office, then when she's not there, you can't get that permission, right?"
    Her: "Hmm..."
Me: "So if you're just waltzing into her office when she's not present, then what's the point of knocking when she's there? That's like a messy guy cleaning up his crap whenever his mom shows up because he only knows that he doesn't wanna get in trouble with his mom, but he doesn't understand why he needs to become a clean person."
    Her: "Oh..."

What bothers me about people like her is that they just don't get it. They repeat the same shitty mistakes over and over, then continued to walk around with a giant question mark hovering over their heads. These people really have to stop what they are doing and ask themselves why they should change certain habits of theirs. Unless they understand why, they'll never change. I don't give a fuck about how many times they thank me for pointing out their ways to them, because it doesn't do anybody shit when those bad habits just come back again when these people think they can get away with them.
