Lockness Monster...
As much as we all wish that it exists, all reseaches and evidence point the other way.
According to most of the "sightings" in the past, Lockness Monster - Nessi, is believed to be a prehistoric living fossil, a Plesiosaur that survived the holocaust delivered by an giant asteroid. But can a dinosaur really exist in Scotland?
- All miracles aside, Scotland isn't exactly Australia. It's cold.
- Until proven otherwise, dinosaurs are reptillian animals. Reptiles cannot sustain heat within their own body. That's why reptiles that survived from the prehistoric eras, such as crocdiles, flourished in Australia, where the climate is warmer.
- The last evidence of Plesiosaur roaming on earth (or in the sea, rather) was 65 million years ago. Lockness Lake formed 10,000 years ago.
- Although they live in the water, Plesiosaur are (believed to be) air breathing animals. They should be seen spending most of their time above the water, thus making them a lot easier to be spotted.
- The cold, murky water of Lockness isn't the best environment for living. Scientists believe that the food within the lake will not be able to sustain an animal over 2 tons (about 2 elephants). A Plesiosaur certainly weighs much more than that.
- Light, fog, water ripples. Put any 2 of the 3 together and you can get tricky illusions.
For all the books I read, and all the wishful thinking that we can find a living dinosaur on earth, simple logic pointed otherwise. I am sure the legend of Nessi continued to pass on because of one simple factor: People do not wish to let go such romantic mystery with the lake.
Is it possible that there IS a Lockness Monster? It's possible. But it's unlikely that it is a Plesiosaur.
