People tend to argue with me about ¡§fairness¡¨ when they really aren¡¦t talking about things being fair or not. They are usually arguing about whether they like it or not, which obviously, have very little to do with the actual fairness.
Example: An aspiring artist once told me that god was unfair to have given me more artistic ability than he/she has given him. It turned out that he spent most of time sitting on his ass reading comics, watching cartoons and filling his head with unoriginal fantasy crap, while I worked, drew, and interned at jobs that helped enhancing my skill sets.
So there¡¦s nothing unfair there. I made my sacrifices over the years with what I got. I just find it rather upsetting people don¡¦t look within before push the responsibility elsewhere.
I started working for my own money when I was 13 years old, in case those questioning about fairness wondered. And here¡¦s the list, in chronological order:
- import auto parts (back then, it was just replacement parts)
- sandwich deli worker (yes, it turned me off from cooking forever)
- public library (where I discovered how many books get stolen)
- video rental store clerk (yes, porn, too)
- community college math tutor
- community college Chinese tutor
- eye glasses frame store (I vowed to avoid doing sales at all cost since)
- comic book illustrator
- import car performance shop
- resident hall front desk services
- resident hall network intern
- college newspaper magazine cartoonist
- start up comic book studio intern
- magazine internship
- graphics production
- print graphic design
- web design
- illustration
Fairness?
Was it fair when kids I grew up with spent their time sleeping, while I do my homework after getting off my jobs? Was it fair that their parents bought them BMWs, while I worked to save even a down payment for a Honda? Was it fair that while we were away in college, kids around me went home every weekend to have their laundry done for them, and groceries bought for them?
I don¡¦t let people argue fairness with me, because I already knew what isn¡¦t fair.
I don¡¦t let people use the ¡§you just have a different view¡¨ argument on me, because they haven¡¦t seen the world as much as I have. I am not the one with the tunnel vision, because I¡¦ve ALWAYS viewed and evaluated the world around me WITH ME IN IT, not seeing it through my eyes.
I make that claim because I always criticize myself first before I move on to the next suspect. Thus I¡¦ve already considered most of the different sides of things that people tend to futilely argue with ¡V which are stuff they read from the books, fiction or rare scientific findings. Such arguments don¡¦t sit well with me, because they are beliefs, NOT experiences.
By the time I got into college, I¡¦ve already spent 5 years, albeit part time, in the adult world. Seeing how the world corrupts right around me made me grow up quickly, and thought twice about the ideals I had, or were taught to have.
Yes, there¡¦s always that argument against me, about that one in a million cases that is supposed to proof my views incorrect, and supposedly brings hope. I¡¦ve read it in the books, too.
But that¡¦s what books do. They offer knowledge, AND HOPE.
In a society that is filled with millions, I have yet to see the one in a million hopeful around me. So I will always discuss a topic in regards to the average millions.
Fairness? Pretty much. I don¡¦t have a lot of materials other people were given without work, in exchange for a vision to see more than most people can in this world.
Cocky? Maybe. Confident? Definitely.
I am stating it now: I see more than you do, because I already have seen and experienced more than you may be able to comprehend in your life time.

Everyone sacrifices something for something else. We cant look at one and say that they're lucky cuz we dont know what he/she has given up to get what he/she has now. Good luck with everything that you do. It seems to me that youre a hard working person. Wow, work since you was 13. Impressive.
hey, i can't argue with you in that yur prolly has more experience than i do (i mean yur just older than me to begin with) and thus know more about many things that go around or not go around this world... but i believe that you can't just outright say "I see more than you do, because I already have seen and experienced more than you may be able to comprehend in your life time." because along may come a turtle that has lived longer than you have, traveled further and wider than you have, gained much greater and more profound experiences than you have and ultimately be much more wise than you are right now...
i just think that you can learn something from almost everyone that you meet
i've learned a lot from meeting you and i really thank God for giving an amazing friend like you into my life...hopefully you feel the same way
